Full Version: WARNING - do not mix lubrications!

The Real Touch device came with a bottle of WET, which is an excellent water based lubrication.

After my first day of testing, there was so much leakage that the original volume of WET was almost depleated. No problem, I have a bottle of Astroglide, which is also a water based lubrication.

Mixing together WET and Astroglide in the same bottle ended up having a chemical reaction with each other, and they formed a rubbery compound. That new rubbery compound is not water soliable and even formed clumps in my sink.

I have saved some of these clumps for future experiments to identify what may work to dissolve it. Perhaps alchohol? It should be something rather simple since the basic ingredients are almost the same, but these two products are not compatible.

Even after flushing my Real Touch with warm water, one side is no longer working when commanded to lubricate. Since this new compound will not disolve in warm water, that side is rather stuck until a solution can be found.

It should not matter what type of water based lubrication you use with the Real Touch, but please be warned.

FLUSH the previous lubrication with lots of water before introducing another brand!
Now this is one of the strangest things I've ever heard! Thanks for the heads up. I would have never guessed two water based lubes would interact in this matter.

Sorry to hear it gunked up your RealTouch. I'm assuming even warm watter won't work, so I dunno what to tell you. If there isn't much gunk in it, maybe with enough water it'll eventually unclog? I hope you do find something to dissolve it.
Try very hot water on your samples. If it works one of those suction bulbs they sell to clear babies noses to flush the system. I might also suggest to try rubbing alcohol.

I agree, super hot water will probably work, and if not, I would use rubbing alcohol with a touch of acetone. Just be patient, and take small steps. Going to hot or too far could ruin your machine.

FYI, I suggest buying WET off the web. I got a 18 ouch bottle for for 6 bucks.
Just to clarify, only one side actually dispenses lube on the belts.
Nothing that I did helped, and I have tried everything possible that would not chemically damage the belts. My lubrication motor no longer works.

Oh well, since the pump was working a little "too well" and making a mess, this is not a major problem. I simply have to manually pour a little lubrication into the RealTouch when it feels too dry.

Anyway, I absolutly love this invention!
I had mixed the same two lubes as you did. I had no reaction or clogging issues. Works the same as it had.
Strange that it did not happen to me. I even mixed the two in a cup with nothing happening. Is it a certain type of Astroglide? Like light or ?
