Just got my realtouch today and will post a review later...if I can get video to stream properly. I wanted to get ideas from you folks because I've exhausted live chat support, they can only help me to an extent and now I have to wait till monday for phone support.
I have the latest software, am running xp with DSL. I experience no problems when I watch DVDs, hulu and other video sites and can play Left for Dead on high settings with no lag.
When I try to watch realtouch videos, they are very choppy. Sound and the realtouch device are working, but the video can sometimes be delayed by 7-10 seconds. I tried several videos with Jenna Haze, Alektra and Tori Black and have used almost 20 minutes just testing out settings. Here is what chat support had me do:
Change Windows Media Player settings:
Options - Performance - Video Acceleration - change to middle setting
Options - Privacy - Clear History and CD/DVD caches
Attempting the Power Cycle on my modem/routers
And of course, restarting WMP and computer if needed
I also messed around with buffer settings with no luck.
Any other ideas are appreciated! Thanks
not sure what to say, try
http://www.ccleaner.com/ it generally cleans your computer from all the junk and tmp files, definitely improves the performance to some extent.
thanks for the reply, it's worth a shot! i'm going to defrag also...haven't had to do that in a while
hHmmm... What admin said is definitely worth trying. You might try a codec pack if that still doesn't work (I typically use
http://cccp-project.net/). Sounds like a strange issue and I hope you get it resolve - looks like you already covered most of the basics. My playback is fine but I currently can't skip ahead in RealTouch videos like I can other videos (though this machine is extremely cluttered at the moment and I really need to reformat - waiting for Windows 7 tho' hehe).
thanks wolfpupNX, I'll try the codec as well.
Bummer, well I tried cleaning up my files, tried installing the codec pack and defragged my drives.
I tested out multi-player online Left for Dead, and was able to play with no video problems or lag. I would think if I can do that, I'd be able to stream these realtouch files. I have no idea...so I'll be waiting for monday to call support. Unfortunately, I'm down to 12 out of the 60 free minutes. I'm trying to get them to credit me some extra minutes, hopefully they are understanding.
They definitely should credit you minutes if you're having problems. Let us know - should be a good inidcation of customer support...
As far as the streaming issue, what's your connection speed? (I would think from saying you can do HuLu this would be no problem though - hrmmm...)
One other thought - you don't have any other bandwidth intensive programs (P2P, etc.) running when trying to play these, do you? (Probably a dumb question, but thought I'd ask in case.)
no such thing as dumb questions...and any ideas are appreciated. I did a test using speedtest.net and it shows my download speed at 1.32 mb/s. Not sure how that rates these days, but all my hulu shows run fine, only on occassion have I had to pause to run the buffer. Also to answer your question, no I'm not running any other bandwidth intensive programs at the same time as realtouch.
Hmmm. Well my ISP connection is faster than that, but if Hulu works fine, I still think that should be sufficient as these aren't HD videos or anything...
I still say they need to implement a system like AEBN's regular VOD service has where you can choose your connection speed/quality level of the videos based on bandwidth. If I can think of anything else, I'll let ya know.
I called customer service today and they were able to fix my streaming issues and they credited me back to 60 minutes. So far my customer service experience has been positive. Although live chat wasn't able to help me, phone support attitude was friendly and patient.
What I did to fix the problem:
Reinstall WMP
Change video acceleration to medium
(this probably fixed it) Change WMP Network settings by unchecking RTSP/UDP and RTSP/TCP and keeping HTTP checked.
