Just want to say I have not bought a Real Touch because of the pay-per-minute pricing. It's a good thing they are changing the pricing model in May or else this product would fail the same as DivX.

What would be ideal if the product was sold slightly above cost, and users were able to purchase and own video content, and also create and exchange their own haptic encodings.

I suggest an open approach because it's customer friendly, and the current attempt at creating a locked ecosystem is transparently greedy. Good luck.
The problem is that they have to have a system that they can get 100s of pornographic studios to agree on for digital rights. It's not so simple to say ok we're open now create all kinds of content, because then they have to pay licensing to all the studios for the content.

Actually, it is for them. as long as it's streaming. They already have a shared licensing deal for streaming content with many studios. Usually a "shared" deal or flat payment monthly payment. But, it's also why you'll likely never see an "own" ability on the content. You could watch it online for the life of the company, or rather the life of their agreement with the studio. But it is unlikely you will ever be able to own a permanent copy of the content that you can keep. Unless I'm mistaken, AEBN does not own that type of license to their content. And it's why you'll always be stuck having to pay per minute forever. (Or some kind of monthly fee to access online.)The world of content licensing in the adult industry is a strange one.

There are two distinct groups. Those studios that came before or "pre" the internet, and those that developed afterward or "post." And while the "pre" people are coming around to the expanded uses, in their day, you basically made 35mm film or VHS tapes. If they were smart, they got broad licensing contracts from the performers, which allowed for future tech, but many did not. It was not very "organized" in the 70's & 80's. And there was no 2257 requirements. As a retailer, you got calls from each "studio"selling their product direct, from anywhere in the $6-38 range.

The post internet crowd were more "savvy" about the possibilities. They sell all different kinds of licenses. Mobile, streaming, download to own, limited play, or "rental" licenses, and even various quality/resolution licenses. It's a way to maximize the revenue stream.

This presents many possibilities. And it's not "hundreds." It's tens or hundreds of thousands of "clips."
Remember, they are selling "clips," not full videos. While the "pre" people would sell a "disc/VHS full" at a time, or a compilation, The "post" crowd again found a way to maximize their dollar by selling individual clips.

"pre" content can be purchased wholesale for as little as $1 per full disc. I've seen 8 hour compilations sell for $4 & 5 dollars, and less.

And yet, "internet" versions of the same content can easily go for ten times that.
I said 100s of studios not 100s of clips, and it seams like you are agreeing with me about different studios having different licenses.

'm i don't now about above!
but for me a site that only offer streaming, is one big faillure!
if they don't have downloadable content = big mistake!
the new prices they made, not gonna do such big things! it's one step in another good direction, but it isn't enough!
look at bangbros & many others, these sites get's big, why = they just offer people chose stream or to downloadable vids or not!
those site 's will never be so big on the net, if they only support streaming! it's just the downloadable content that makes them so good around!
nobody would visit only streaming sites, may'be a few! but not as many when there's downloadable content!
& this is one of the only reasons the realtouch never gonna get's big enough, if they don't change there strategie in the near future! there's no long lifetime given to it!

Sorry, yes, then that is accurate. But it would be thousands of "studios." I use the term loosely, because every web girl and her "man" call themselves a "studio," on the internet.

And every one of them seem to think they have a new angle on "licensing."

I'm afraid I have to agree with you on many of your points. But I for one, am happy AEBN is making a contribution to the field. The more products there are, the more interest, the more the studios will come around.
do you really think many studios would go to the realtouch?
many try this before, virtualhole, venus2000 or nimbus, en that other BJ simulator where i can't remember the name of...
but the concept was the same, playing some vid & get some explode Smile

Venus 2000 was never for use with any kind of content. It's a good product, that would benefit from a partnership with a VR company like VR Innovations technology, but they never showed much interest.
I think the other BJ machine you might be thinking of was the Accujack. The original version was pretty sad, but a company called "funways marketing" refurbishes, and makes a new model of that machine which has a dedicated following. But sadly, that machine is also not an interactive machine. They would also benefit from a partnership with VR Innovations Technology.

Virtual Hole was never really a competitive product, and never released here in the US.
I don't know of anyone that actually ever had it operational. I have one of the only commercially available versions from the pacific rim, but to my knowledge, it's not in production.
Clearly, The Virtual Sex Machine is the best machine in the field, and has been available to the public for 10 years now, through several new models. And since VR Innovations invented this field of technology, we can expect great new things from that product line. Customers also have the benefit of not having to continuously pay to use their product. Once you pay for the machine, you get the first 5 videos for free, and never have to pay to use them, ever again. It's the same with every disc you buy there. Once you own it, it's yours to use forever. No internet connection, no depending on the company to be there to "authorize" the use of the machine you bought, and no strings attached. Also, after 10 years, many of the original Virtual Sex Machines are STILL in use.

As to your question about the studios, they are very funny about that. As I mention in another post here, they have some strange ideas about their content, and many don't have the vision to see beyond their tried and true methods of distribution. In this case, AEBN is in a position where they don't really need the approval of the studios to create content for their product with existing clips. They have existing "streaming" licenses for the content. (This is also why they will never be able to sell a permanent "you own" copy of the existing content"- They aren't licensed to sell it that way.) This is twin edge sword though. Without the cooperation of the studios, they can get an "attitude" about you using their content. I think other studios see that attitude, and choose not to get involved. I know one very large, and well known studio that wants nothing to do with them. And many in the industry remember AEBN's tube site that was accused of piracy, although they seem to have worked that out with the studio in question.

It's a decision each company must make for itself. Namely, either you work with the studios, and get them on board wholeheartedly, or you say "screw it" and pervert their content for whatever use you want, and push the limits of the "legal" agreement. Personally, I think that approach is short sighted, and demonstrates a company that is out for the "quick Buck." It makes me question the level of commitment to the product quality, and industry as a whole.

The Virtual Sex Industry is still in its infancy, although the people here are early adopters, and it may seem like a long established trade. But in the "big picture," the industry is new, and has a long way to go.

in the US will the streaming part may'be work!
but in europe it will definitlly fail, people don't like streaming things here at all! if you buy people would to own here! so that will the first big part to fail the realtouch. second problem, people not watch only american porn here! but many content from germany, eastern europe or azia.
3rth problem is the product, seems many problems with it for now. so they really have to fix al that. may'be that's why world wide launch will be first quarter of 2011. Big Grin but the streaming part keeps the remaining problem 'm almost 99% sure of that! it's a whole different life style here...
4th problem would be that it will be hacked, pretty sure of it!
they just build a virtual server connection to bypass the streaming stuff.
it's only matters of timing. but with dvd sells for it, they sure can make lot's of new $... ok dvd's can be hacked too, but there's a difference...
3d will save the whole industry!
the day, we have computer real humanoid looking models! (virtual looking pornstars, that are so hot & you don't see difference against CGI or real human)! that's the future of virtual content porn!
why ???
computer models never complain to do whatever shoot asked to them Wink
i don't understand, that the gaming industry not created many games full of erotic content. it's a market that will be in big production very very soon!
believe me. Cool

cheers
The pricing model is exactly what is keeping me away from the Realtouch. As interested as I am to try it, I will absolutely not pay $1/min to masturbate. Yes, I know there are "value" (haha) plans where you pay as little as $.50/min w/e but that is still too much. Paying per minute is a horrible pricing plan on this type of product and requiring the owner to also be connected to the internet is an added cost and annoyance that, IMO, should never be a requirement for a masturbation toy!

I read another post where someone suggested a video game type of pricing system where you could buy "cartridges" and own the video to use with the Realtouch WITHOUT needing to be connected to the internet, perhaps, if that were implemented, I *might* buy one...

I am disgusted at the level of greed behind the decision to set up the current, outrageous pricing plan. The concept and technology is very captivating and hopefully there are enough people out there willing to pay such ridiculous prices to move it forward, but I will not be one of them if the current pricing and requirements remain.
