Just to let you all know. I am software/hardware engineer working on hacking the real touch. I am building a two new controller boxes that can be software controlled. The first box will "record" the realtouch actions and I will use it to analyze the real touch actions. The second box will "play back" actions. I also intend to build a authoring tool that will allow you to create your own actions for your favorite movies. Let me know if anyone has a interest in supporting this project.
If Realtouch impliments the program options that they have been talking about, it will be more affordable. Lets not kill it before it gets a chance to develope. I too can make a hack but would not sell it. If we cause it to go under two things will happen.
1. After our RealTouches break then that will be it.
2. Who will bother inventing and marketing the new or better device if all their work will have no profit?
Don't Kill it.
My own opinon

nice

let's hack it! it will not kill to sell! it only kills the stuped VOD system!
& that will be very GOOD!
You are wrong. The price will have to go up 2x 3x or more to cover costs and make profit. Then people will complain about the cost per unit. To make the product better, cost money. They have to PAY saleries, marketing, support, R&D ect. Not to mention the extra costs of protecting the product. They are responding with some great Ideas to make it all more affordable with choices for users. Just as the flat screen tv prices have fallen. So will Realtouch. If they can survive all the other problems of bringing a new product to market, not counting having it hacked and losing a revenue stream. I knew it was going to happen, just the timing is bad.
I still say it will put Realtouch in a poor position to stay viable. They are not Sony or another large company with huge resources. Money is hard to come by if you havent noticed, but then again we still have our hands.
Reset,
I agree with you on many points.
My aim is not to kill the company and I want people to invent a better device and profit from their inventions.
I'm doing it for selfish reasons, I don't want to pay the VOD system every time I want to use the device and I would like to use it with my favorite movies. I probably wouldn't mind paying 2 or 3 times more for the hardware if they provided me with authoring software and a "free" or Itunes like (buy once and use over and over) community to share Realtouch "scripts". In my opinion leveraging a community approach would probably skyrocket overall use but you are correct that the hardware cost would have to go up for the company to stay in business. I wouldn't mind paying $0.99 cents to $4.99 for a script (which Realtouch could take half) that I could use over and over. If the community creates the scripts this eliminates labor intensive work for realtouch, also it might get adult company's in the game creating the "official" scripts for movies and them simultaneously promoting the toy with their videos. I realize this is an entirely different model than the company had in mind and would probably make their investors (counting on a pay per use model) go into cardiac arrest.
Maybe I will just share the new device(s) with a handful of dedicated hardcore enthusiasts thereby negating any possible impact on the company as a whole. If anyone is interested in becoming part of that small group let me know.
Interestingly enough I read on a forum that RealTouch does not even have a authoring system themselves. They somehow do the coding manually and it takes them 8 hours per clip. That seems crazy to me!!
Wonder why that wouldn't be the first thing on their list!?!!?!?
I'm still intending to pursue the goal of building my own controller and software (because I plan to use the device a lot), but maybe I won't post open source hardware and software on sourceforge as I was originally planning to do.
Thanks Reset
I don't understand why a thread like this is even allowed. Particularly when this website has RealTouch in the domain name.
Evorealtouch,
I too do not understand why it takes so long to encode a clip. Unless they keep takeing many personal breaks. I program robotics and the software I use would work with the RealTouch. I could get it done in an hour or less. The software must have been created for the RealTouch and has not been used enogh to become developed and more intuitive.
I can do the same and make a programable unit for myself. I would not sell it. I always felt that if you can modfy for personal use and have that ability, then Licence is not an issue. It becomes an issue when it is sold and dissrupts a companys development.
Thanks for the responce, it is a great machine, it will get better. Makes me wonder if we will look back some time in the future and say the same as we have about video games like Pong.

if they keep the prices low, they will sell a lot more units

it's the vod part that let many people wait to sell a unit, until there 's a better alternative in use!

& it's a product of ABN, they have enough money...
so this isn't an industry saver!
it's 3d, that would be a whole new industry!!!
so pornstars whip out of your flat tv screen for a boob bounce!
may'be a combination of some realtouch sort of toy.
'm expecting much of the japanese mirror version of this toy!

I imagine that this forum was setup to allow people to freely exchange ideas. You can't stop people from talking and sharing ideas on the internet.

From a legal point of view, AEBN can when it's done through a site whose domain name includes their trademark.
I also imagine this site was set up to promote the RealTouch affiliate program. Now, sadly, it seems that no affiliate program is in sight, but if RealTouch hacks are achieved and spread throught the internet, there won't be a product to either promote or enjoy for anyone. Nor, likely, any other virtual sex products for a considerable time.
Try posting PlayStation hacks at a site called PlayStationForum and if you don't get a writ from Sony, the webmaster certainly would.
